1. What sparked your interest in photography?
I returned from a trip to Israel back in the film days and had taken hundreds of images to document my trip. I realized when I got them back that they were pretty good so I took up photography and never looked back! At the risk of sounding cheesy, I will stop here.
2. Have you had any funny, odd or just plain interesting experiences while shooting?
Yes, I had a drunk groomsman one time say something very inappropriate to me. (I will leave what he said to your imagination because it is inappropriate for the web). Just the other day I walked up on a drunk groomsman peeing in the parking lot, right beside my car.
3. What is a day in your shoes like?
WARNING : You are about to find out how boring I actually am…
I typically get up around 8am, but I LOVE sleeping in.
Go to the chiropractor.
Come home.
Get a shower.
Hit the studio about 9 or 9:30 (I work out of my home).
staff meeting / edits / email
LUNCH BREAK!!! on a nice day my staff and I either head out for lunch or eat on the back porch, we love fresh air! (Leave your desk for lunch people!)
Blog and/or Twitter
Do an afternoon shoot and wrap everything up about 5 or 6pm. If I don’t have a shoot, I always have something else to do like plan a workshop or think of what crazy venture I could get into next!
I love spending time with my family on weekends off and on the weekdays I enjoy playing the Wii (I will challenge you to Mario Cart anytime, bring it!) and hanging out around town with friends.
After work I…
ride my bike
watch my DVR shows like House, LOST, and Last Comic Standing
Play Mario Cart
Crawl into my bed, I love sleeping!
4. Any advice for aspiring photographers?
Yes! Surf the web for people who inspire you… study their work, ask yourself what is it that you like about their style. Attend workshops… always worth it! Start a network with other photographers that you can be friends with… they will be your best support! Also, always leave a shoot and say “I can do better”, it is what drives me to pick the camera back up and try again… I can always do better!
5.Where do you spend your time on the web these days?
I spend most of my time on the web following blogs of other photographers who have rockin’ work. I also spend a1.LOT of time updating my blog or posting my latest twitter status, so addicting. I try not to get sucked into the web whenever possible because I like hanging out with PEOPLE!
6.Why? (yeah, we know…it’s a deep question.)
The answer is because we all need a story, something to tell, something to remember, something to hang on to!
